I have always believed that Life, in its enormity, is a series of if-else loops. Though the sequence of events involving any decision may be fuzzy, the decisions themselves are binary .....from which there’s rarely any looking back.
It all started with first impressions and oembarked n a thought process that opened a Pandora’s Box of questions.
There are times when we feel instantaneously at ease with people from the first.
Why?
Switch (practical/honest reason)
Case 1: We would have detected positive vibes from them (may or may not be on the basis of other modes of communication like e-mails/calls etc) in response to which a clean-cut mental image of them is built in our minds.
Case 2: Or it could be because we see something of ourselves in them…..or something which we wish to be ourselves.
Case 3: Or it could be because we do not sense any threat from them…..our insecurities, suspicions and hesitancy are allayed in their presence
Case 4: Or that there is an element of truth, frankness and honesty about them that’s very appealing, natural and can be related to easily.
Case 5: Or that they make us feel alive.....like none other.
Default: They like us as well :)!
I digress here to explain that this is a typical case statement in C, the output of which is a single choice. In reality, the answer could be all of them.
The spoke in the rotating wheel makes its prickly presence felt in the following ways – what if we realize that we have seen only what we wished to see? What if this positive image gets tarnished by some unsavoury incident? What if we realize that all that attention bestowed as been misunderstood at the most fundamental level? What if the very characteristics which appealed to us now seem phoney?
When I used the words “Give a chance...to yourself as well” with the fond hope that ABS would understand, little did I realize that how much our lives had meshed to maintain a semblance of shocking parallellism.
It’s all about chances. But then, when it’s been decreed that I do not even deserve one, where’s a second one let alone the first?

As you said, all the above are true!.. and pricky spoke inserts uncertainty.. that causes a stumble in the first chance!.. and every person should be given a second chance to know and relook at things!.. life is like a circle.. you make others a victim by not giving a chance now!.. its your chance next! and you would think about the samething that the person who likes you had asked for!.... I can understand how it is not to be given a chance!.. as i was once!.. cheer up!.. no more words!
Err...the title of the post didnt enter my tiny brain :D!
Your Cases are all spot on.
We do sometimes tend to look at only what we want to see, and disregard everything else. The problem is that "everything else" is very plainly present for you to see, but you choose to ignore it. Then comes a time when you can ignore it no more, and then you feel betrayed, by yourself, most of all.
But chances? Whether we deserve it or not, we should grab at more of them.
well written,kaNe

Until we can choose otherwise, it's a matter of chance.
I liked this the best so far! Very insightful.
On a personal note. Your thoughts remind me what I was during high school / college days - reflective and sensitive. I think, over years, the edges get smoothened out and you harden over time. I stopped penning down my reflective thoughts soon out of college.
Keep up the good work!

Chance is only the first thing - you can only come face-to-face by chance - after that it is all a matter of CHOICE! As, I write this, it seems very typical of the way we met after a long time during the summer of '99 (Boy! That was close to 'Summer of '69'!) and we stuck a chord that has kept us going to this date.
I completely agree!
I thought somebody proposed you and you... err.. hehe.. :P... but this sounds very serious madam.. :O... dont mean to hurt you. Just that I'm learning to take things lightly. :)
how was your week the end?..

i guess we need to give 'space' to lot of other people on chitraaz.
...especially about comments not related to posts...
end*: oh!..yeah!.. but the crazy thing is that!.. a point to comment occurs only on chitraaz.. post :p.. what to do!..
sujit,
thats what naa, many people relate with chitraaz,
and...we so need to respect their space too...
may be we should step back from commenting here.
