Adi has taken to calling me up every weekend. And I treat it as a welcome break from the monotony of life where I spend most of my time listening to ‘grown-up’ people – and it can get really bugging if all they do is crib.....about life, about work, about salary...or preach about the same. So this is how one gets to spend some 'quality time' , eh? And they have the guts to complain that I do not speak much. Sigh....!!! Old habits die hard.....:).
Coming back to Adi, our conversation revolves around what he does from morning till noon (afternoon is the time for his nap, you see). I love to hear it from a child's perspective. Life seems so simple. Sometimes he asks the strangest of questions like “Why can’t you come and live here only?”, “Why do you have to work?” etc. I feel it quite strange coming from a four year old. Sometimes, one has to make allowance for the young. Keeping this in mind, I attempt to answer all his curious questions. The innocence in them is a refreshing change. Thank God that I am still able to recognize it....
Lately Mom has taken to ‘affixing’ a sprig of jasmine in my hair. She does it so silently that I am half unaware of it until I get a whiff of fresh jasmine flowers. Though I feel that’s slightly unprofessional, what the heck......if it makes her happy, so be it.
Sometimes, I realize, one has to make allowance for the old as well.......;).

Innocence is like a fresh jasmine... pure, white surrounded by lots of greenery with the unique fragrance of its own. But after some time (when we 'grow up') the same jasmine no longer remains white and fragrant.

lovely!
...and white is a symbol of purity and serenity as well...
making allowances is a good thing...
//I feel it quite strange coming from a four year old.
Well, it can come from a 4-year only! Just think about it.
//unprofessional
Eh... WTH. Who said that professionalism is inferred from the clothes you wear, the way you make your hair etc. The rich have decided for the others the rules of professionalism. Trends are set not by the masses, but by the few who have the power and influennce to make a change!!! May be you are trend setting?????
# Thankyou endevourme, Yes its a symbol of purity... On a lighter note its the colour (blank & 'white') of my test papers during college days ;)
# Really liked angada's second part of the comment.

Hi Chitra:
Just bumped into ur blog through Kini's..
BTW - * I thought it was unprofessional but you have to give allowances for old people too*
That line is very thought provoking..Our MBA lives have boxed us to the extent of expecting professionalism at home !! Are we getting be less emotional and less toletant people at inappropriate places?

Hmmm...for any working professional there are two facets - the personal and the professional. Whether you want it or not, your personal lifestyle does have a say in your professional one. If you lead a healthy personal lifestyle it should not affect your professional lifestyle in a negative manner. So you see, it's the other way round !
Actually the act of wearing flowers to work made me write that particular line :)!
hmm kids.. they are so cute n innocent... And with their innocense they make us think about so many things...
About flowers to work.. .well I like flowers anywhere else except my head :)

...and in between enjoy what's called life :)!
Very well written post, Chitra. I also read the post about Adi proposing to you. The children are really innocent, whereas the adults pretend to be innocent. Heltharall, eno gothilde iro hange nadkolodhu. My grand mom used to do it to my brother. She would some how trick him to have food at our place.
Here's my take on professionalism:
I'm not used to wearing formal dress, but now am forced to as am looking out for jobs. I call them 'fancy dress'. Like in school we would have a fancy dress competition, I wear it for job fairs.
