Well U have a point. I failed to look at this issue under that light as I had become engrossed in u r article. I had just forgotten the source or the main essence that was discussed in the article.
Thanx for pointing tht out and yes it was a great analogy (paradoxically) u have bought in.

Yep.....who does not want to earn money?? The scientists had ample opportunity to do the same, but they refused because they had an inking of the destruction which would be caused. Try relating this to the case of the Software Engineer murdering his wife for dowry...

Hmm...coming back to the issue on hand, I feel that education today just teaches how to make money (both by just and unjust means)... There are no issues of morality involved in higher classes. I guess that aspect ends with Kindergarten itself...
Sometimes, the fault lies with teachers themselves. They appear to be a disinterested lot, not really caring whether what they teach makes sense to the students or not. My father used to say that his teacher personally used to make sure that the students read in the study holidays by coming to their places and checking on them. I rarely see that in today's teachers....
Another important matter is the way we are brought up. Our culture and traditionalistic values go a long way in influencing us. One important aspect I remember is those scientists who refused to research into the concept of atom bombs. All these scientists had a strong traditional background (both family wise and culturally). They were able to envisage
what would happen in the future if such a destructive invention were to put into practice! Hence the result - the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki – brought severe condemnation, not only from the public but also these scientists, who were against the idea from the beginning.
Plus, a lot depends on the company we are with. Even with a good background, people tend to stray simply because of peer pressure. These belong to those set of people who still are in search of an identity, in spite of strong-rooted values instilled by their family. I have seen some of my friends smoke, not because they like it, but because they are not considered a part of the group if they do not smoke !!!
Too long a mail, right??

Well frankly I expected some exchange of viewpoints, knowledge, feelings and of course some mutual leg pulling, sarcasm, smart puns, and a whole lot of wit and humour emanating from any chosen topic.
U see I do not discuss things like these with everyone I talk too. Just that I feel, U are a right match I can pit myself against, among the girls I mean. U take thngs with a pinch of salt ( many do that) but do not stand back and respond back as or shld I say as curtly or coldly as U do. That's an interesting attribute of urs. Well I thnk I am praising U too much now.
That is what I expected and I manage to satisfy myself with the nett effect of our chats normally. Today it was way below what I expected to get . But its alright now.

I jus though U were a great company to converse with..... that was all.....

What happened to U today??? U don't seem at u r normal self. I mean it is not evident in u r writing or U responses. U used to have a dash of sarcasm, some humor sprinkled, some spice up, served with salt, well U seemed like in u r terms "Chicken Soup for My early Morning".
Well maybe coz I get soo much from a session chatting with U I seem To enjoy conversing (Mailing) U.

Well If U remember our conv initially, in reply to this mail I had questioned the role of education if it was not giving the qualities U had talked about.
That is “Education does not teach common sense as well.....neither does it teach
The meaning of ethics or values...."
So I thought U will take a stand on that and we can discuss abt it?? That was all!!

I recently came across this article about this NRI, who murdered his newly wed wife in cold blood and dismembered her body. Because he wanted a dowry of Rs 2 lakh, oh the shame of it
I can’t understand how some one who is so well educated can actually stick to such concepts as dowry. Wasn’t education supposed to be the cure of all evils, the light which was supposed to dispel darkness.......
Or perhaps the education being imparted is of the wrong kind. Perhaps this is not education in the truest sense of the word. This education teaches you how to make money, but doesn’t teach you to open your mind, doesn’t teach you to be tolerant. Sadly most of the so called well educated people are still intolerant to other religions, ideals and so on.
But then the question arises, isn’t a quality such as tolerance a basic human quality, not something which needs to be inculcated through education.
Apparently not...... humans it seems are very dark creatures.... man must be the only living being in the world who requires education to be ethical .... animals may not be as advanced as human beings.. but they are perhaps a better set of living beings..............
And when will all this stop.... never.....each generation passes on the same ideals to the next generation ......and the intolerance and social evil will never end....... pathetic .... humans in some of their forms are pathetic ...... nothing more....nothing less.........
cheers

I am amazed (and a bit pleased) that JV still had this scrap at some remote corner of his mail-box. I remember wondering when I went through the conv-scrap the first time - "Did I actually write this?" .....
I am still wondering......
Sigh...maybe the effects of a very stressful day is finally catching up :) !!

Si is my cousin :). Refer "Kya kare kya na kare"... :)
*cold blooded murder keepin monitary benefits in mind...(GOSH! the minds of some barbarians!)
*i think more than the education that is imparted wat really makes a difference is the kinda ppl u interact with (while in those institutions)..but if u carefully notice ..measures have been taken to make "ethics" a part of the education these days as well(referring to those xtra subjects incorporated now a days)
*wondering how ur friend JV wud react if (s)he ever finds out that (s)he was put on the spot light of ur blog :P
*on a funny note - even though this was probably unintensional... its an interesting way of getting the compliments to roll on ur side ;) [smart move!!]
*i probably shudve written a disclaimer at the begining of my comment too... oh well.. i already warned u :P
so-called-doDDa: nanna Sanksrit teacher haeLta idru. Vidye kaltre buddhi barolla antha. Same was the case with that NRI I guess. I know a person who has done his MS in a US university, just becos he will get a higher dowry and the only criterion to be his wife was to be good in economics. :). yella tharada janagaLoo irthaare illi. Some Indians, when they go abroad, only have a multiplication factor in their mind. 45 for US, 80-85 for UK. Education is just an entry permit for them. Its so disgusting!.
And..you guys actually manage to get some work done !??!!
:D
hey chitra... you have brought up a very good topic. I think we are touching upon the matter of "education" superficially.
It is a good idea to read what Lord Macaulay's Minute says. His openly racist and shrewdly imperialist attitudes have made the Indians we are today! Please read the page given in following link when u find time. do tell ur friends about it.

*Yup...barbarians is the right word!
*True...but how much of importance and weightage is paid to a subject like Moral Science?
*I already took JV's permission. JV ....where are you when I need you? Eh?? :)
*Tee hee...you noticed?? :) :)That's me - modest to a fault! :)
*Consider me warned :) !

Yup doDDa. Totally agree with you on this point! Disgusting is the word for it!
-/Kini
Tee hee....howdu. Is it that hard to believe?
-/AA
MaaDtheene kaNe! Definitely....
hey...wasnt referring to moral science... heard of "professional ethics"??...it is of some importance .. though not as much as the others (from the point of view of the students)..
watz the relevance between ur title n ur post?
-/Lakshana
Oh..got it :) ! With regards to the title, on two points:
1. You ought to have some perseverance inculcated at an early age which our education system lacks.
2. Well...you ought to have perseverance to go through such a lenghty post right? :) :)
