Questions.....questions

1. What was your first impression when you got introduced to me/ saw me?

2. Did it change after our …..hmmmm say….first conversation?

3. And has it changed after knowing me for a pretty long time :)?

Mujh par First Impression ka bhoot chaDa hua hai. So please bear with me. If you can, continue with reading. If not, consider yourself suitably warned that this post contains a lot of sappy stuff.

I sent this questionnaire to a wide circle of people, some who have known me for several years and some quite recent. To all those people who have answered this, a big thanks from my side. To the rest, (seeing such ‘tremendous’ enthusiasm, I would be a fool not to realise that you are yuxtremely 'busy') rest assured that I would not be troubling you with such mails.

Aunnnndddd..... first impression covers a wide range from being friendly, broad-minded, talkative, silent (Tuglak :-)...), having one hell of an attitude (er...not sure if it's on the positive side), lively, easy-going, fun to be with, conservative (Tuglak again :-)....), selectively (ahem) talkative, girl with ‘that big smile’.....and of course long hair :-), someone who could talk on any topic and has a mind of her own.....so on and so forth.

Ones which startled me were the likes of this:

“I felt as if I have seen you somewhere and I felt as if I am meeting someone who I already know for ages”

This from a person whom I have barely known for a couple of months........

“school-girlish”

This from a person whom I have ‘known’ for a couple of years........

There are times when I feel I just reflect the positive attitude of a person interacting with me – if you are friendly, you can count on me being friendly. If you are frank, you can expect the same from me. If you write long mails, I would definitely reply with a lengthier one. Same goes for short (and supposedly sweet) mails.

Why?

Expectations......

Which are met......and which change with time......

And what do you do when the level of expectation is not met?

When you are hurt.......offended.....

When there’s a breach of trust........

When the rift is too wide to be crossed.......

When there’s no communication.......

When that much needed support is absent........

Forgive?

Lower your expectations all the more?

How long?

How many times?

Till there’s nothing left.....? No trust, no integrity, no relationship?

What’s in a first impression? A lot more than what’s on the surface ........

Are you doing a 360 degree evaluation or something of yourself? This is the latest buzz word of HR these days. :-)
